School Supply Drive 2016
June 1, 2016 - August 1, 2017Free
The Silver City Woman’s Club is holding their annual school supply drive and is accepting donations of a assortment of items.
Each year, the Silver City Woman’s Club has our school supply drive. The goal is to collect donations of school supplies and children’s books from our members and the community. Included in the school supplies were: Notebooks, loose leaf paper, computer paper, pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, back packs, pencil cases, crayons, No 2 pencils, 2 gigabyte jump drive, tissue, markers, dry board markers and erasers, staplers, staples, art supplies and children’s books.
The public is asked to assist in this very important program. We can also accept cash donations which are then used to buy items such as thumb drives, which are needed in the high schools.
When school starts in the fall, we invite representatives of every school in the area to come to the Woman’s Club to pick up their boxes of supplies.
“We obtained this year’s list of supplies directly from teachers,” says Woman’s Club Outreach Chair Vera MacGregor.” “Our non-profit community service project is geared to help a wide age range, from kindergarten to 12th grade.” Once collected, these school supplies will be distributed to all of our area schools, so we definitely need plenty of items” “Last year we provided two large boxes for every school, and we would like to do that again this year”, say MacGregor. According to The Journal https://thejournal.com/articles/2015/07/23/survey-average-teacher-spends-500-out-of-pocket-on-classroom-supplies.aspx, a teacher survey by SheerID of 536 K-12 teachers found that 71 percent of respondents spent $200 or more out of pocket on school materials yearly.
